What are the advantages and disadvantages of getting a GED?

As far as I know there are no disadvantages related to getting a GED. Unless you are comparing a GED with graduation from and even then there is little difference Obtaining a GED allows one to apply for jobs and education programs that require a high school education. Even the military wants someone with a high school diploma or equivalency There are some gh School students that will take the GED in order to start college earlier I'm a high school teacher and would recommend that you stay in school and get a diploma if at all possible.

Many students think that it's easy to get a GED, but the fact is, you still have to have knowledge of high school level math, English, science, and social studies. Having said that, high school is not for everyone. I have students whom I recommend getting a GED because they are in 9th or 10th grade and have only a few credits or are overage and it's not possible to graduate before they turn 21.

Most employers don't look as highly upon a GED as they do a diploma, but it depends on what kind of job it is. Most technical colleges will accept a GED for entrance, but four-year colleges will not. You have to have a diploma nowadays to get into the military.

Another option is adult education. You can go at night and get your diploma at your own pace. There are some programs that have classes during the day, but you still have put in the required amount of hours (usually 60 per credit)and some require that you already have a certain amount of credits and have already passed the state exit exam.

The requirements vary from program to program Visit the official GED Testing Service website at acenet.edu for more information or call 1-800-62-MYGED (1-800-626-9433) to find your local GED Testing Center. The center can tell you: Whether you can take the GED Tests Where to find the Official GED Practice Tests Where to find a GED instructional program How much it costs to take the tests When the tests are given Other useful information.

The advantages are that they are simple and cheap. A dead weight mooring that drags in a storm still holds well in its new position. Such moorings are better suited to rocky bottoms where other mooring systems do not hold well.
